WALKER LAKE - A RETIREMENT AND VACATION COMMUNITY

Walker Lake is Nevada’s best kept secret - a very special community. I can attest for this myself.  I live here on the lakefront.  I’m from California and this is heaven to me.  We have a very special community here of approx. 200 residents of the kindest and friendliest people you will ever meet.

Our little town is quiet, peaceful, beautiful, with stunning sunrises and sunsets.  In the late afternoon, you can see a perfect mirror of the mountains on the lake.  It’s unbelievable. The air quality here is near the best in the nation.  There is no smog.  When you look across the seventeen-mile lake, the only thing that stops your view is a mountain range forty miles away.  On a clear day, thirty-five miles away on the top of Mount Pilot, you can see eighty miles to Tonopah.

The Horses you see in this picture are an everyday site here in Walker Lake. I shot the photo myself within fifty feet.  There are desert bighorn sheep, wild horses, cottontail rabbits, an array of other critters, and a lake full of Cutthroat trout waiting to be caught by even an amateur fisherman.  A golf course is 10 miles south in the town of Hawthorne along with shopping for all your home needs and an airport that accommodates small jets. 

Best of all, we have no crime - that’s right, none.  You feel safe here and the residents all look out for each other.  If needed, the best sheriff’s department in the state of Nevada is 10 minutes away in Hawthorne, but they never seem to have a need to patrol Walker Lake.

We are hour and a half from Mammoth Lakes ski resort; four hours from Sonora and the Central Valley Modesto area in California; two hours from Carson City, the Nevada state capital; and two and a half hours from Lake Tahoe and Reno, Nevada.
